Walk forward and take down the 2 security guards in front of you using your standard “attack.” Continue forward and head through the brick hallway on the left. A very brief cinematic plays where Jessie and Wedge run past you. Next you’ll have to take down 2 more security guards standing in front of the turnstile.
You can defeat them using your standard Attack or using Abilities, Spells, or Items once your ATB bar has been filled. This bar refills over time and by doing standard Attacks.
Enter the Reactor Grounds
Approach the turnstile to automatically jump over it. Take down the 3 security guards ahead (2 ran down the stairs, the 3rd sneaks up behind you on the right). Experiment with combos of attacking ( Square), executing commands (X), and blocking (R1)/Dodging (O). Once they’re dead go up the stairs ahead.
At the top of the stairs is a Chest! Open it to get 2 potions.
Chest: Turn so that your back is towards the chest you just opened. Now head forward and to the left into the corner full of junk (signs, boxes, barrels, and 2 vending machines). Push through all that to reach another chest with 2 grenades inside.
Head to the outside area, always check your surroundings for boxes with the Shinra logo. Inside you’ll find potions to restore HP, Mako Shards that restore MP (needed to cast spells), and sometimes Moogle Medals (use is unclear in the demo.)
Walk towards Wedge and Jessie then run to the right to talk to Biggs.
Infiltrate the Reactor
Head down the stairs and deal with the Security Officers and guard dogs waiting for you.
Chest: After walking down the stairs head to the fenced corridor on your left for another chest.
Move forward and take the elevator/lift on your right. Continue along the path. You’ll try to follow your colleagues through the hole in the wire fence but guards and dogs are after you again.
Tip: Use your Fire Spell against the Guard Dogs to stop them in their tracks.
The area up ahead is canine free. Take down the remaining security guards.
Chest: To the right of the large doorway. There are 2 potions inside.
Run ahead and you’ll reach a large door. Interact with the lever/switch on the right to open it. Then keep following your crew.
Talk to Biggs, on the left, and he’ll hack the door open.
4 Security guards are waiting for you. Follow the tutorial and learn how to use your Unique Ability. Press Triangle to change between Punisher (Strong Attack) and Operator Mode (Attack). Once you’re in the mode you want, use square to attack.
Talk to Jessie and she’ll keep breaching security. In the next room, press the elevator button on the right.
Ally Joined: Barret Wallace
Barett is now in your party! Here’s how this changes combat.
- You can now switch between Barret and Cloud.
- You command both of them when it comes to using their abilities, magic, and items.
- Barret specializes in ranged attacks *using a gun on his arm). His unique ability (triangle) is overcharge. It recharges over time but you can speed up that charge by tapping triangle (which controlling him).
- Barret’s Abilities and Spells are different than Cloud‘s!
- Barret’s Abilities: Steelskin, Focused Shot
- Barret’s Spells: Lighting, Heal.
Once the battle is over, head for the stairs leading down towards Jessie.
Reach Mako Storage
Follow Jessie through the flashing red lasers. Wait for them to go and then run when there’s an opening. The first set has a straight forward pattern: On, Pause, Off, Pause
Go down the stairs and get through the next few lasers. These are harder to avoid but still follow a pattern.
How to Beat the Sweeper
Ahead is the most challenging battle so far.
Before starting it consider healing your party with a Potion or by using Barret’s healing spell. And when you reach the bottom of the stairs turn to the right and get the bottle of ether from the chest.
Here are some tips for the fight:
- Use magic to give yourself an opening.
- Fill the enemies “Pressured” bar (below its health bar) so that it becomes “Staggered” this causes it to before temporarily defenseless and take more damage.
- When it’s Staggered, use moves that do additional damage such as Cloud‘s Punisher Mode Strong Attack, Barret’s Overcharge, etc.
Follow Jessie down the ladders until you reach the location to set the charge. You can down ladders quickly by holding R2 as you make your way down.
Chest: After the first ladder keep walking forward and open the chest for a tuft of Phoenix Down which can be used to revive party members and restore a bit of HP.
Before setting the charge: Heal if you need to! A boss battle is coming up
Set the Charge
When you make it to the reactor it’s time to set the charge. You can set it for 20 minutes or 30 minutes. Which may leave you asking: “which timer should I select and how does it matter?
How to Get the Secret Ending in the Demo
The difference will change what Barret says to you but you can also unlock the secret ending in the demo if you select the right timer.
- If you select 20 minutes he says “Pretty cocky, ain’t you?” and after the demo ends you get an extra few seconds of a cutscene at the end.
- If you select 30 minutes he says “Hah! That long enough for you?” and you do not get the secret ending.
- Note: it took us less than 10 minutes to escape before the bomb explodes so selecting 20 isn’t as risky as it sounds.
The Scorpion Sentinel is the first boss in FFVII remake and it has several different waves to brace yourself for. Here’s how what to expect and some tips for defeating the Scorpion Sentinel boss.
When the Sentinel’s health is down 1/3rd it will jump onto the wall and attack from afar. Use Barret to do long-range damage with his gun. Watch out for the EM Field (electricity) it generates shortly after coming back.
Keep attacking to increase its pressure meter. Another barrier will form but take it out with Cloud‘s Fire Spell just like last time.
Once its health is down to half wave 2 will start.
Watch out for the Tail Laser. Run for the debris. This will always appear for you to use as cover. Because you can’t do much while hiding from the attack now’s a good time to use Potions, Barret’s Healing Spell, Other items, or to tap triangle while playing as Barret to make his Overcharge meter fill more quickly.
Watch out for its Electric Field (close-range damage) and red missiles (long-range damage).
At this point it will rotate between these attacks until its health is down to just a few HP. At this point it will start to auto-repair! Don’t let it.
Stop it quickly by destroying its legs and then the machine entirely. Have Barret target one leg and Cloud another then strike the final blow.
Escape from the Reactor
Now that the Sentinel is dead this whole place is gonna explode. Run for the exit, back through where you came. You and Barret will get separated for a bit.
Rendezvous with Barrett
On your way back you’ll be reunited with Barret and fight alongside him again.
Sprint to Safety
Finally, just keep running until you’re out of there.
