Welcome to the Sea Tower
The Purple Streamer originates from the top of the Sea Tower. The Sea Tower is located in space A2 of your Sea Chart. You can enter the tower after completing the three trials in Diamond Island and obtaining their orbs. To see our walkthrough for the Diamond Island trials, click here.
After arriving at the Sea Tower, tear off the tape covering the purple #4 warp pipe on the right side of the island. Then, walk over to the door and insert the three orbs to enter the tower. The tower is connected to the four Vellumentals. You can see the statues of each Vellumental in the first room. Continue through the room and use the door to access the next area.
You’ll need to use the moving pillars as a bridge to cross over the spikes. This area can be a bit tricky, due to the alternating patterns of the pillars. You’ll want to pay close attention to the two pillars that do not retract completely into the walls. You’ll want to use these as anchor points for your journey across the spikes. From front to back, the two anchor pillars are the third one on the right and the sixth one on the left.
Once the pillars in the first two rows are touching each other, begin crossing as the pillars in the third row begin nearing each other. Then, wait on the first anchor pillar. Let it retract and, when it extends again, cross over to the pillar on the left side and continue backward until you reach the second anchor pillar.
Wait on the second anchor pillar until the left pillar on the final row extends fully, allowing you to cross to the other side.
Earth and Water
This area contains monuments to the Earth and Water Vellumentals. You’ll need to fix both monuments to continue your journey through the tower. There are origami Sidesteppers and Koopa Troopas patrolling this area. You don’t need to battle any of them – unless you want to. Mario is strong enough to defeat each of these origami soldiers by hitting them with the Hammer.
First, fix Not-Bottomless Holes#1&2 on the floor near the center of the area. Then, walk to the right side to fix Not-Bottomless Hole#3 on the wall and hit the ?-Block to gain a Shiny Tail. Walk over to the dragon statue on the right to interact with it. Then, walk to the left to reach the blue Sidestepper.
The blue Sidestepper runs out of the room carrying a gem. You’ll need to chase the Sidestepper, take the gem, and return it to the dragon statue on the left. Hit the ?-Block to the left of the dragon statue to gain a POW Block; then, use the doorway to pursue the Sidestepper.
When you enter the next room, walk to the back, and fix Not-Bottomless Hole#4 on the side of the pillar. To reach the Sidestepper, you’ll need to get to the area above the pillar and tear the tape that’s preventing it from moving up and down. After fixing the hole, follow the ledge toward the foreground. There are two origami Koopa Troopas patrolling the ledge. Wait for them to rush at you, then use your Hammer, or jump on them, to destroy them.
After destroying the two Koopa Troopas, jump onto the pillar on the left and ride it to fix Not-Bottomless Hole#5 on the pillar next to it. Ride the second pillar down, and walk toward the back to enter a small area with a chest behind the pillar. Open the chest to get Collectible Treasure No.94 Sea Captain Toad’s Boat. That’s all the Collectible Treasure in the Sea Tower! Jump back onto the pillar and ride to reach the ledge above.
Walk to the back wall and avoid the pillars coming out of the left wall. You’ll see a healing heart floating at the back-left corner. Hammer the left wall to make two small pillars extend out. Climb onto the pillars and use them to jump on top of the large pillars that extend from the back wall. Walk over them to get to the other side. There, you’ll find a ?-Block with some coins. Tear the tape off the pillar and ride it down to continue chasing the Stepper into the next room.
Here, the Sidestepper is using the crack in the walls to evade you. If you’re on the front side of the room, it’ll stay in the back – and vice versa. To catch it, walk to the back-left corner of the room. Hammer the wall below the dragon’s head a few times to cause the head to drop and cover the crack in that wall. Walk to the front side of the room to cause the Sidestepper to run to the back. Then, walk to the back and hammer the Sidestepper which is now standing beside the dragon head. Obtain the Red Gem and walk back to the main room.
Once in the main room, walk to the left dragon statue and press A to insert the gem in its mouth and fix the monuments, allowing you to go up the stairs and exit through the doorway. Once outside, use the stairs and the moving platforms to go up the tower. Don’t worry about the Toads taped to the Tower. They’ll be freed once you defeat the boss.
Ice and Fire
As you cross the bridge, make sure to fix Not-Bottomless Hole#6 on the floor at the end of the bridge. You’re strong enough to destroy the Buzzy Beetles on the right side, but you’ll need to battle the Fire and Ice Bros in the center. After dealing with all of the origami soldiers, fix Not-Bottomless Hole#7 on the back wall and Not-Bottomless Hole#8 on the wall to the left of the Save Block.
The path to the back doorway is blocked by ice. You’ll need to use the button on the Fire Vellumental statue to melt it all. Walk over there and hit the ?-Block containing coins. If you hammer the button on the Fire Vellumental statue, it’ll blow out a small flame. You’ll need to hit the button with more force to blow enough fire and melt the ice. There’s a hanging metal ball on the right, as well as a Magic Circle, but they’re both out of reach.
From the ?-Block next to the Fire Vellumental statue, walk to the foreground and use the ice stairs to access an ice path that leads to the left side of the area. Halt, as there are two Sidesteppers patrolling this ice path. Wait for each Sidestepper to approach you; then, use your hammer to destroy them.
After crossing below the bridge, jump onto the stairs and fix Not-Bottomless Hole#9 on the corner of the wall. The doorway next to the hole leads into a small room that’ll reset the ice sheet puzzle on the left side of the area. Ignore the small room for now and go left to enter the ice sheet puzzle area. You can easily destroy all the Sidesteppers by standing on the ice sheet and sliding it left and right until you’ve run them all over.
Before attempting the puzzle, fix Not-Bottomless Holes#10-14. Check out the image above to see which are hiding beneath the snow blocks. Once you’ve fixed the hole, go into the small room to reset the puzzle. Inside you’ll find Not-Bottomless Hole#15 on the wall and a confetti refill.
Use the image above for reference, and hammer the side indicated by each letter in alphabetical order. On step C, you’ll need to hit the snow block while you’re sliding to the left to change direction toward the back wall. With the ice sheet firmly in place, jump up and fix the final Not-Bottomless Hole#16. Then, stand on the new ice sheet and hammer the wall to slide it all the way to the right and reach the doorway to enter the next area.
This room requires you to cross a specific path to reach the other side. Just like the one in the Fire Vellumental Cave, misstep, and you’ll need to start over. Use the image above to guide you across the fiery platforms. Once on the other side, hit the final ?-Block to gain some coins and 100% completion for ?-Blocks in the Sea Tower! Fix Not-Bottomless Hole#17 on the back wall; then, use the stairs on the left.
Stand on the Magic Circle and use the 1,000-Fold Arms to pull the metal ball free. Jump down and use the Save Block on the left before exiting the area through the doorway in the back.
There’s an origami Hammer Bro at the top of the stairs outside the tower. Battle the Hammer Bro first; then, fix Not-Bottomless Hole#18 on the wall after winning the battle – all 100% completion for everything in the Sea Tower! As you ride the Fire Vellumental platform up the side of the tower, watch out for the origami Sledge Bro that’ll toss hammers as you approach him. After defeating the Sledge Bro, ride the Ice Vellumental platform to reach the Healing Heart and use the Save Block. Step onto the next platform and ride it up to begin the boss battle.
Sea Tower Boss Battle – Tape
On your very first turn, you’ll notice that there are very few icons and panels on the battlefield. Your goal on your first turn is to open the chest and attack Tape. Opening the chest releases the Magic Circles, the ON icon, and other panels for the next turn.
You’ll have to do this a lot throughout the battle, because the panels you use on your current turn will be stored in the chest – and will be there on your next turn. Make sure you open the chest if you notice the panel options are getting slim.
During the first phase of the battle, you’ll need to focus on destroying Tape’s purple dispenser. The dispenser has two broadsides. Each of those sides is composed of two halves: the back – where the roll of tape is – and the front – where the tape is cut. You’ll need to position the Action Panel so that you can reach all four sections with your Hammer. It’s possible to destroy a section of the dispenser with two attacks. If you line up the Action Panel in the center, it’s possible to hit the front and back sections at once! After a section of the panel is destroyed, you’ll no longer need to (nor be able to) attack it. Combine your Hammer attacks with the blue + and the red x2 panels whenever possible. Never use your Boots to attack during this phase!
The Magic Circles can also be used to destroy the dispenser. The 1,000-Fold Arms are more effective than the Fire Vellumental during this phase. You’ll still need to position the Magic Circle to be on the side and near the section of the dispenser that you’re trying to destroy. The Fire Vellumental can be used anywhere and does deal some damage – though it does not seem to actually break the dispenser itself.
Once you’ve destroyed all four sections of the dispenser, the real battle against Tape begins. Tape will tape up sections of the battlefield. Mario can safely walk over these strips of tape without getting stuck. The problem is that the tape sticks sections of the battlefield together. You’ll find that you may end up moving multiple rings all at once because they’re taped together, or unable to slide rings because of the tape as well. This can make it a hassle to line up the moves you want. Pay close attention to the rings you are moving. Remember that you can hold down the + button to buy more time. You can also hold down Y to call the Toads for help. Though they’ll not be able to help you remove the tape from the floor, they do show you the path Mario will take while you’re setting up your movements.
Don’t worry though – you can use the Fire Vellumental to destroy all the tape on the floor at once. This doesn’t do much damage to Tape himself but is necessary to remove the tape so that you can have better options moving.
To deal significant damage to Tape, you’ll need to attack with the 1,000-Fold Arms. The arms allow you to give Tape a smackdown and pull a bunch of adhesive tape off until Tape is reduced to just a sliver of material on a cardboard roll. At this point, Tape will be desperate. You’ll see yellow energy surround him, which means he’s priming his ultimate attack. The attack is just two Sticky Spins in a row, which isn’t very grand but does deal a lot of damage. Finish off Tape with the 1,000-Fold Arms to destroy him once and for all!
After Destroying the Purple Streamer
With the Purple Streamer gone, your next target is the Green Streamer – and it seems it originates from the clouds. To get above the clouds, you’ll need to hit a button on the four Vellumental statues that surround the roof of the Sea Tower. To access each statue, stand on the Magic Circle, and use the statue’s own Vellumental ability. Then, walk to the statue and hammer the big red button. Once you’ve hit all four, you’ll activate a warp pad that’ll allow you to reach the “Paradise” that all the Toad statues in the Great Sea kept referring to!
