collaboration with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may have contained more connections relevant to the actual plot of the movie than previously realized.
[Minor spoilers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker]
Lucasfilm went on a series of media blitzes ahead of the release for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. One of those media campaigns included a special mini-event in Fortnite where players could dress up like popular Star Wars characters and watch an exclusive clip from the film. But there were also other in-game, Star Wars-related events, including one directly referenced in the movie.Like other mainline Star Wars films, The Rise of Skywalker begins with a text crawl summarizing the events directly leading into the film. For the newest installment, the crawl reads:
“The dead speak! The galaxy has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of REVENGE in the sinister voice of the late EMPEROR PALPATINE.”
You won’t hear the contents of the broadcast in the movie. Instead, you would have heard it if you attended Fortnite’s in-game Star Wars clip screening at Risky Reels. At the end of the screening, Palpatine’s voice can be heard over a “mysterious broadcast” with a “threat of revenge.”
Here’s what he said: “At last the work of generations is complete. The great error is corrected. The day of victory is at hand. The day of revenge. The day of the Sith.”

This makes Fortnite’s collaboration with Star Wars far more comprehensive than just a new clip and some cosmetics. Instead, this made Fortnite players a part of the story, even in just a small way. Though the jury’s still out on whether this means Fortnite exists in the Star Wars universe.
