The Stringfish is a rare fish that can appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The Stringfish is one of the most rare and valuable fish in the game, only appearing a few months out of the year with a low chance of appearing on clifftop rivers, and sells for the base value of 15,000.
How to Catch a Stringfish
Because the Stringfish is both rare and valuable, catching it can prove to be quite difficult. It only appears in select locations at certain times of the day, and it shares a spawn with a lot of other fish – including the notorious Black Bass.
Stringfish only appear on clifftops – meaning they can only be found on the second and third tier elevations on your island. This means they will be located either at the top of waterfalls, or along the river – though most people tend to find them where rivers form at the top of their islands in the small ponds above waterfalls.
It is highly recommended that if you are searching for a Stringfish specifically, you first gather as many Manila Clams as possible to create stacks of Fish Bait, which will allow you to keep triggering the arrival of a new fish, rather than having to run around your island, using ladders or inclines to constantly check for new spawns.
Remember that the clifftop rivers that Stringfish spawn in are also shared by all other fish that appear in rivers – not just clifftop rivers. This means you’ll have to contend with many other species of fish while looking for Stringfish – so if you aren’t time-travel averse, we recommend hunting for Stringfish when the least amount of river fish are fighting for an appearance: around 8 in January and February after 4PM.
